Stonebridge Mortage_Learning_The_Different_Styles_Of_Homes_Second_Empire_Home

Buying a home is an exciting endeavor, but there is a fair amount of vocabulary that you may not be familiar with. How many times have you driven down a neighborhood and pointed to a house that you liked but didn’t know what the style was called? Wonder no more! Here is an overview of the most popular styles of homes, like the Second Empire style, which you can probably recognize by its wrought iron crests on the roof and rectangular tower.

Second Empire (1865-1880)

This beautiful style originated in France and has an almost magical castle type feeling to it. Typically the siding was done in wood but can also be found in brick. The roof was similar to the Stick-Eastlake in the complex sections but more unique in the wrought iron decorations at the top called crests. The windows are typically tall and narrow, with dormers and bay windows. Other features that are typically found are the window balconies, rectangular tower, and small entry porch.
