Stonebridge Mortage_Learning_The_Different_Styles_Of_Homes_Italianate_Style

Buying a home is an exciting endeavor, but there is a fair amount of vocabulary that you may not be familiar with. How many times have you driven down a neighborhood and pointed to a house that you liked but didn’t know what the style was called? Wonder no more! Here is an overview of the most popular styles of homes, like the Italianate style, which you can probably recognize by its curved roof arches and decorative trim.

Italianate (1850-1890)

This style originated from England and is a variation of a Victorian style. Like other Victorian homes, what financial class someone was in was shown by the building materials. The wealthier classes could afford stone and brick while lower class people opted for the more affordable wood sidings. Hipped or flat roofs usually adorned this style along with a square cupola or tower. Complete with corinthian columned porches and molded window caps, the home style is a classic.
